A brief history

1897

Battley Brothers started by John Rose Battley in 1897 had been trading for over a century with his son Bernard Battley's mother Sybil Battley taking over in 1952 after John Battley's death.

1962

Bernard Battley started with the company in 1962 and became Managing Director from the early 1970's from when the company began to gain its reputation in the arts.

1987

Margaret Battley (Bernard's wife) joined the Company in 1987.

1998

Bernard handed over the role of Managing Director to their nephew Francis Davies, who helped the company to undergo considerable development.

2000-2003

During this time "Cantate" was founded which was made up of six companies: Battely Brothers, M. & T.J. Ltd, A.G. Bishop & Sons, Postal Publicity Press Ltd, Experdite Graphics and Tellfull Printers. Considerable new investment enabled us to move to the present site and extended the range of facilities considerably. Due to ill health, Francis Davis resigned in late 2003.

2004

Ben Turner joined the company as Managing Director in January 2004. The company went from strength to strength.

2006

Cantate became part of the John Good Group in
July 2006.

2007

Robin Parish joined Cantate as Managing Director in
January 2007.
